These
upcoming holidays offer our industry a time period of great
opportunity for increased sales. Sadly, many of us consider this
period a good time to take our own time off! Perhaps we wrongly
consider that it won't be a busy time because normal routines are
interrupted during holidays. How dangerous that kind of thinking
is!
Holidays are a time when the family members are in town for a
longer period of time! This means they have extra time to explore
the facts surrounding their parental living conditions, to think
about helping to solve the needs of their parent(s), and to take
advantage of their free time to visit your community. My personal
record of eight presentations in one day took place on the day
after Thanksgiving.
Have you arranged your schedule so that you are accessible when
you clients are most likely to need you? Yes, the turkey will be
eaten on Thanksgiving Day, but the days following are available
for visits. The presents will be opened on Christmas, but the week
between Christmas and New Years is open and many families welcome
the chance to use that time for a good purpose.
Today is the time for contacting decision- makers,
especially those who live out of town! In your letter or phone
call, stress that you know how busy they've been and suggest that
the holiday break would be the ideal time to look into possibly
solving some of their ongoing concerns about their parent's needs.
Invite them to a delicious meal that you promise will NOT
be left-over turkey! Be available in the evenings and throughout
the weekend, if necessary. And have plenty of closing materials
ready!
